Improved Health and Well-being: Access to health-related services, therapies, and programs to promote physical and mental well-being.
Improved Learning: Assistance with educational pursuits, including tutoring, skill development, and access to learning resources.
Capital Support Categories
Capital Supports refer to investments in equipment, assistive technology, home modifications, and vehicle modifications to improve participants’ independence and quality of life. These supports aim to provide long-term solutions to effectively meet participants’ needs. Examples of Capital Supports include:
• Assistive Technology: Devices and aids such as wheelchairs, communication devices, hearing aids, and prosthetics.
• Home Modifications: Adaptations to the home environment to enhance accessibility and safety, such as ramps, handrails, and bathroom modifications.
• Vehicle Modifications: Adaptations to vehicles to accommodate participants’ mobility needs, such as wheelchair lifts or hand controls.
Supports Not Funded By The NDIS
It’s important for NDIS participants and their families to carefully review the NDIS Price Guide and seek guidance from their support coordinator or NDIS planner to understand what supports are eligible for funding under the scheme and explore alternative options for meeting their non-funded support needs.
Supports unrelated to disability: NDIS funds only disability-related supports, excluding general medical treatment, housing, or education expenses.
Day-to-day living expenses: NDIS doesn’t cover general living costs like groceries or utility bills.
Supports by other government services: NDIS doesn’t fund services covered by other government agencies, such as healthcare or education.
Supports already covered by insurance: NDIS won’t fund supports already covered by private health insurance or other insurance schemes.
Recreational or leisure activities: While NDIS may fund participation support, it generally doesn’t cover the costs of leisure activities themselves.
Non-essential items or services: NDIS focuses on essential supports, excluding non-essential or luxury items like cosmetic surgery or leisure travel.
